Creating a Gmail signature Thermometer

Step 1 – create your Gmail Embedded Thermometer

Follow our simple set up to create your Thermometer template making sure to select Gmail as the Thermometer type from the first drop-down option.

We also recommend enabling the Email Capture tool on the landing page setup tab when using a Gmail Thermometer:

When complete, add your links and icons to your Gmail signature(s) as shown below.

Step 2 – grab your icons

Click the “Generate embed code”.

You will then see the following pop up:

Enter your sender’s name and email address in Custom 1 and Custom 2.

Click “Generate Hyperlinks”.

To create your signature, follow the steps on the popup. We go through them below.

Step 3: Create your Gmail signature

Log into Gmail. Visit your “Settings” area.

Scroll down the General tab until you see the Signature area. From here, create your signature, using the elements from the embed popup. We recommend keeping both screens open, for easy pasting.

Add the Gold icon first of all. Click on “Insert Image”:

From your Section 2 of your Thermometer embed screen, copy the Gold image URL (yellow highlight).

Select the “Web Address” tab in the Gmail screen and paste in the URL. The Gold image will appear.

Click “Select” at the bottom of the screen to confirm.

You now need to add a Tracking Link.
Go back into your Thermometer embed screen. Copy the Gold tracking link from Section 4 (yellow highlight):

Insert that hyperlink to the Gold star in your Gmail Signature as shown below:

Repeat the process for the remaining three icons.

Customize your signature with a question / contact elements.

Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the Gmail settings screen.

Please check our article on identifying senders / recipients.

Final steps

Once you’ve embedded your Thermometer into your Gmail signature, you’ll need to finalize your landing pages. You can enable an email capture field, add a comment field, upload your logo, customize the wording, and lots more!

Simply go to ‘Manage Thermometers‘, and click to edit your Thermometer. Our guide to Creating landing pages will take you through the options…and if you’d like some inspiration, take a look at our top tips for beautiful landing pages.

Don’t forget you can also enable instant email alerts for responses and/or comments.

Email alert notes for Gmail Thermometers

If the email capture field is enabled, email alerts will only be sent if the respondent enters their email address on the Landing page, or clicks ‘No thanks’. If the respondent closes the page without doing either, no email alert will be triggered

If the email capture field is NOT enabled, then alerts WILL come through for all responses.

If comments alerts are enabled, they will be sent for all comments, regardless of whether an email has been entered or not.
